Potholder Pass 1

very pretty potholders and magnets made for me by JenWith.and this is what i made for SewMyLife.these are my first potholders and already know that i don't like using 2 layers of insul-batting. any advice? Potholder Pass 2 begins soon. of course i couldn't help including small knitted things.and if you have time check out my very-first-flickr-mosaic.

I agree. Using two layers of the Thermolam or whatever brand of batting you used, makes both quilting and binding difficult. Was that your problem? But with only one layer, you definitely feel the heat through them pretty quickly. I am debating this myself too. I'd rather make them with one layer but do want them functional. I'll be interested to hear what others say.

I use one layer of insul-brit and one layer of warm and natural or one layer of insul-brit. I've also used 2 layers of warm and natural. Those combos seem to work for me. Pretty potholders.

Wow, Karen, I missed quite a few posts. Lots going on here all good too. Love the pot holders. I am with Stephanie, I would definitely use insul-brit and then layer some more batting. I like my potholders to have substance.

I've been experimenting a bit and I think I'd be happy with one layer of insul, and one layer of cotton. That's not too bulky to use.
I don't use my pot holders for items out of the oven, I only use them for hot pot lids.
I love your creations, though I'd be afraid to use them in case they got spoiled! LOL

I use two layers of cotton batting with a jeans needle and a longer stitch length - seems to work ok. These are just lovely potholders - will brighten up any kitchen!

Hugs - Shari

PS - flannel pinwheels! what could be cozier...

I use my little knitted things all the time (they are looking a little worn but still work).

I, too, use one layer of Insulbright and one layer of cotton batting. This seems to give substance and insulation. Most pot holders will heat up so they are not for holding for a long time. ;-)

I love potholders. It is like making a mini mini quilt.
