Scrappy Sunday
Block #34
wow. another week has gone by. this is honestly the first time i have layed out the blocks. it doesn't really make much difference which order i put them in.
i'm going to say design wall. but it's really the back of plastic table cloth nailed above my couch. my design wall is only showing you a 5 by 5 layout. looking for one more middle or middle substitute so i can make a 5 x 7 layout.

Scrappy Sunday
i made a Block #34 yesterday using my last middle square.
at least i thought it was my last. turns out it was that square i found in my stash a few weeks ago. but oops. i didn't check the size before i started sewing. it was 1/2 in too big. couldn't figure out why my pre-cut-just-a-bit-bigger-than-9-1/2 in.-strip-last-to-sew-on was too small. the whole time i was thinking i am going to miss this block. and that i should just make it again. and what would i do different. i was also working on my Fala blocks.
so today i will re-sew my scrappy block. and finish up the handwork on Fala.

Scrappy Sunday
if you wait for someone to come in the middle of the night and cut your thrifted clothing into pieces so that you can eventually make some kind of quilt you will probably be waiting a long time. i not only wished it once i wished it a million times.
since i have no interest in spending valuable time on a new project but i do have an interest in making some kind of progress on transforming thrifted as well as personal clothing into a finished project i will again be using that one-block-at-a-time method.
new inspiration came from this summer quilt made by Dawn's Great Grandmother. and who could forget the tumbler quilt made by Ulla. i like that these patterns can handle those scrappy bits that don't seem to go together.
even from these small pieces i was able to cut quite a few squares and tumblers. i also saved strips just in case. but honestly i had to throw the rest away.
i don't miss any of the thrown away bits from my thrifted quilt.

Scrappy Sunday
i'm having scrapper's block. for the last few weeks i start to put a block together and i just don't like it. so tonight i did some playing. these are four scrap strips sewn to green squares.
see last pic here. Kathy of Material Obsession calls it her Green Scrap Eater. but it has been worked up in other colors. love the "anything goes". love the "no matching points". love that it might just "eat up my scraps".

Scrappy Sunday
block #28:
today's fabrics came from a fill-the-zippy-bag-with-scraps-for-$6. i probably could of crammed more in there. but i was pretty happy. sometimes i make a big deal about driving into the country during the winter months. she exaggerates. this shop was only 8 miles away. today was sunny & warm and i was in need of new inspiration. can't believe i haven't been here. what a beautiful store. i did get some cuts for the Time for Tea Swap but i can't show you those.

Scrappy Sunday
yeah. i know it's Monday. but i picked 8 new fabrics last night & then fell asleep on the couch. so this morning i captured 4 more to bring you Block #25:
can't skip too many times. don't want you to think i have abandoned it. 10 more blocks would bring me out to 3/29. but i really would like to have it all sewn together by then.

Scrappy Sunday
i had to show you this from yesterday. how did the fortune cookie people know i needed some support. & this fabulous fabric made me famous in my family. but i'm using the last ot it this year. boo-hoo.
another inspired project from LMP+QG. pg. 29. can't show you the whole thing. it's a secret. but you get the idea. email me & maybe i'll show you the rest.
and this week's scrappy block wasn't going to get done because i couldn't find 12 pieces that i haven't used. yesterday i looked again. hang on to your fabric. because two weeks ago i stole a tiny piece of the candycane fabric from Jessica. and yesterday i stole tiny pieces of these still auditioning fabrics from my sister. i'm getting desperate. but the result is Block #23.
& if you're on Blogger i wanted to share this with you. Pamela Joy pointed it out to me this summer. it's a slideshow of recently published photos. & if you see something that interests you. you can just click on it and go to their blog. i've never seen any of mine on there. so i don't know who chooses them.

Scrappy Sunday
Block #20
i started hand quilting my Christmas Cottage quilt. this block was made by Nanette.
the first names of my block makers neighbors are embroidered on trees. using the Press'N Seal method i mentioned here. a precise tweezer used for splinters should be used to remove the plastic. otherwise it will pull on the stitching.
i'll add some buttons later. and some random stars. and a that all important label.
