got crushed walnuts for the inside. and this gorgeous hand-dyed wool for the backing. but in case i happen to fall asleep before the clock strikes tonight. or switch to my knitting. yep. knitting. and then falling asleep. sounds like a lovely way to end the year.Chelsea Boutique by Blackbird Design for Moda. i found 3 charm packs that i've had for-ever. and a few days ago i washed them. yep. after spending all of 2009 agonizing about whether i should not wash fabrics before using. i have decided to go back to washing everything. even charm packs. been missing my ritual of dumping it in the washer and waiting for the dryer to give me back my fabric just the way i like it.

Tuesday, December 22, 2009

on the 13th i delivered the second part of my paper bag advent to Mom.her birthday was on the 17th. so included was a note saying a gift too big to fit in little bag was hidden in her closet. nevermind that it was last year's xmas present. but yeah! i finished her blankie-quilt.the advents were fun. so i would like to do again next year. taking a break tomorrow a.m. to make cookies at my sister's house. can you believe she told me not to make a mess. then back home to zig-zag the binding on a few more blankie-quilts.

so simple. lots of pieces with different measurements. just have to make sure the point of the Fuselage is actually touching the Tail.i thought this was called Fly Boy. but instead that was the name of a quilt with every block an Airplane.

A Christmas Wish

if it's finished it's beautiful! i say that alot when someone shows me their work. that being said. this is not really finished.just a 20 in. square. my strips were cut 1-1/2 in. wide. and that would have made a 7-1/2 in. block. but i trimmed them down to 7 in. before assembling. i am really glad that i made this. and i will probably make it again. it was very satisfying. Melanie, Simone and Lynn have already posted their finished quilts. aren't they beautiful!

Half-Pint Quilt Along

not sure why i wanted to downplay the white. but i changed the two 3 in. borders to just one 1 in. border.and the scrappy binding will go right next to the sawtooth border. it does seeme like a lot of everything in a such a small space. but i'll show it to you as soon as i get it together.

Week 6: Adding borders and sewing scrappy binding.

Week 7: Quilting.

Week 8: Binding.

Pocket and Paper

i really like the look of the stitched numbers.Jessica and i were exhausted. but the pocket advents were finished just in time for December 1st. one for Jessica's house. and one for my sister's house.1/2 yard cuts from Quilt Taffy. 1/2 yard cuts and a panel from Fabrics By The Sea. white Kona cotton on front. and premium Kona muslin on back. and thanks to QT for mixing the brown polka dot with the Have A Sheri Berry Holiday prints. it inspired the brown stitching for the numbers. and OMG. did i actually machine quilt something. i stuck to my comfort zone which is zig-zag. hated it. but will try to do more of it in the future.

my Mom's paper bag advent was finished on December 2nd.she has already asked if she is getting a strawberry candy in each's a peek. i have another week to fill bags for day 13 thru day 25.

Carolina Christmas Part 2.

get started. then Part 1. then Part 2.
i do need to sew these together. but i'm calling it quits for tonight.not having the suggested Easy Angle Ruler used in Part 1. i made my HST with 3 in. squares and trimmed down. but Part 2. included those triangles you sew off to the side. they work better when cut the right size. and when someone (in this case Bonnie) says make 100-something-of-anything it seems logical that you would take their (her) advice. so off i went this morning to the was a miracle i got in & out only buying the Ruler and some Hemp. well i did get some Extra Thin Hemp and this Paper String to tie on tags this year. other than laying out a Clue i can't say much about the Hemp. right now just an old idea that might get pushed aside when time runs out.

Carolina Christmas Part 1.

get started. then Part 1.

it's coming....

take a peek at this advent i am making with Jessica. 2 of them have to be ready done and filled with goodies for Dec. 1st. we're making more than 2. the fabric is called Have a Sheri Berry Holiday. and in lieu of applique. we are stitching the outline of #'s with Perle Coton No. 5.the paper bag advent i am making for Mom. there's no link. i just made it up. my coffee shop kindly let me have bags early. so i could decorate. i could probably put 1 biscotti in each bag. but i will mix it up with some other stuff. the local pharmacy has that section where they sell small samples. of course i'll only get the things that Mom would like.would you believe that even the local scrapbooking store doesn't have stickers just for advents calendars. but for $2./hr. you can use their cutter and make whatever you want. so i quickly grabbed pretty paper and went to it. i needed 2 pages. since it was not sticky paper i had to glue them on.and i am excited about the fabrics i gathered for Carolina Christmas. in lieu of gold i am using a brown Jo Morton just picked up at the annual sale. the rest are stash favorites.

green all over

Choose Me

while you could go crazy and use some precious fabric you have been saving. my Block Friend is made from one of those stash fabrics i liked but never got picked to be next. here are some offered-up-choices. fabric that will get the job done and not complain too much about not being your favorite.the winner is Gari of Quilting in the South. contact me and let me know which fabric you choose. in middle are old decorator ones. bikes on left are Henry Glass. and stripes are Anna Griffin.

accidently i could find something else that would work. because i am rummaging in my stash looking for small red and green scraps. i think i am going to make Carolina Christmas.

there's no denying that Bonnie's mystery quilts require extreme homework. and there's no denying that starting one during the holidays is just insane. well maybe i will come to my senses and change my mind. it starts in 9 days. with or without me. with or without you.

Block Friend

just awful. teetering on the end of my couch. and whatever is stacked underneath. and the awfulness around it is just the messy area with bad lighting that i work in. that's my current bee block. soon to be a 16-1/2 in. square.i made this block friend rather quickly. perfect for a 12-1/2 in. square. mine is 18 in. x 24 in. not quite big enough to assemble this block. i really need to edit a bit and make 2 more rows.scrap of batting. sorta trimmed nicely. leave a comment and i'll make you one. winner folds into a nice 7 in. x 8 in. bundle. and if you're not liking the stripes. i'll let ya pick something else. check back Wednesday morning. i also made some little ones. which i will tell you about in my next Got Vintage post.

Have Ya Noticed...

how focused and organized i seem to be lately.
it happens sometimes. and then it just goes away.
but the panic of i-could've-done-all-that-in-October has set in.
my Schnibbles is pinned. and my Half-Pint is on the design wall.
and i've cut out an apron. cute pattern can be found could be my new basket system. most of my 8 blue baskets were in the pantry ooozing with maple syrup or other sticky stuff. i went to store to get more and they only have them in white. so i left. but i don't care what color is in the pantry hall closet. so i might have to go back. because my blue baskets are now my-important-project-baskets.i have plenty of these wicker ones so it's holding my Half-Pint. it has a big handle so i feel like Laura Ingalls when i go get it.this bucket really works for me. when i find lost pattern pieces. that's where they go until i decide where they really should's unfortunate that i put this sofa table/computer table in front of a really nice dresser that i can't see or use anymore. but that's where the plug and cable come in. i probably won't move it any time soon. because i can also see the t.v. from here. and that outranks almost everything.
