this was not meant to be my final block 3. just thought i would stitch it up and get on with some other projects. also known as "avoiding applique". this was meant to be my year for the A word. so not an encouraging start. but an interesting quilt if i made lots of them in different colors and sewed them together.

I love the stars. If you did like you say with different colors mixed in with some blue and red blocks it would be a great patriotic quilt.
Looks great Karen. Are you avoiding blanket stitch, stab stitch or needleturned applique?
